Setting up a Computer Center at Chaung Gyi Monastic School

Information and communication technology infrastructure has been developing steadily in countries around the world. Meanwhile, the computer literacy rate for underserved communities in Myanmar has yet to go up even though Myanmar is in the middle of many transitions. Most rural communities don't have access to computers or other kinds of technology that they will need to be competitive in today's job market. Many of the young rural people can't afford the high fees for computer training courses, most of which are only available in urban areas. Differences in income, population size, and geography have created a digital divide between urban and rural areas, especially in Asia’s developing economies. At Studer Trust, we wanted to help our communities learn and adopt modern technology, and saw an opportunity to have a computer center at Chaung Gyi Monastic School.

Chaung Gyi Monastic High School is located at a two and half hour drive from Mandalay. The school serves six villages with a total population of 12,000. The furthest village is 15km away. It was founded in 1991 by the Chaung Gyi Monastery abbot to help education for poor children from the villages. When the school was founded there were 63 primary students and 3 teachers. Because it was a monastic school there were no proper school buildings and classrooms, and all available religious buildings were used as daily classrooms. The majority of students who attend the school are the children of Chaung Gyi village and migrant workers who travel from a variety of locations around the country to work at gold mines in Chaung Gyi village. Now, Chaung Gyi Monastic High School provides education for 1,172 students, employs 28 teachers and is led by U Pyin Nyar Nanda, the principal and abbot.

Chaung Gyi School is like other monastic schools in Myanmar: It relies solely on individual donations and would not be able to set up a computer center itself. Studer Trust decided to support a computer center and installed it in one of the current classrooms. The center received a fully equipped computer classroom with 24 computers. Two teachers from the school are employed for the center and trained by the Studer Trust computer technician. The curriculum for the computer classes is created by Studer Trust and includes Microsoft Word, Excel, Paint, PowerPoint, PageMaker, and typing practice in English and in Myanmar.

The School principal told Studer Trust that “A designated computer center would never be possible for our school without the generous support of the donors and Studer Trust”. Teachers are interested to apply to their online classes with the newly setup computer center once installation of PCs and internet are done. School parents are proud of having a computer center at their village monastic school. A grade 7 student told Studer Trust that he is “glad and excited to have a chance to study computer knowledge at his school.”

ချောင်းကြီး ဘုန်းတော်ကြီးစာသင်ကျောင်း၌ ကွန်ပျူတာစင်တာ တပ်ဆင်တည်ဆောက်ခြင်း

သတင်းအချက်အလက်နှင့် ဆက်သွယ်ရေး နည်းပညာများသည် ကမ္ဘာတစ်ဝှမ်း နိုင်ငံများဖွံ့ဖြိုးမှုကို ဖြေးဖြေးနှင့် မှန်မှန် တည်ဆောက်ရာတွင် အခြေခံသည့် အရာများဖြစ်ပါသည်။ မြန်မာနိုင်ငံသည် ပြောင်းလဲ တိုးတက်နေသည့် အကူအပြောင်းကာလ ဖြစ်နေသည့် အတောအတွင်း ဖြစ်သော်ငြားလည်း မြန်မာနိုင်ငံအတွင်း ဖွံ့ဖြိုးမှု နောက်ကျသည့် လူနေမှုဒေသများတွင် ကွန်ပျူတာသင်ကြားတက်မြောက်မှုနှုန်းသည် ထပ်မံတိုးတက်ရန် ကျန်ရှိနေပါသေးသည်။ အချို့သော ခေါင်ဖျားသည့် ဒေသနေ ပြည်သူလူထု အများစုသည် ကွန်ပျူတာအပါအဝင် ယခုခေတ် အလုပ်အကိုင်စျေးကွက်အတွင်း ပြိုင်ဆိုင်မှုအများအပြားကြားမှာ လိုအပ်သည့် အခြားသော နည်းပညာများအား ထိတွေ့သုံးစွဲခွင့်မရှိကြသေးပါ။ များစွာသော ဝေးလံခေါင်းဖျားသည့် ကျေးလက်ဒေသမှ လူငယ်လူရွယ်များသည် အခကြေးငွေမြင့်မားသည့် ကွန်ပျူတာသင်တန်းများအား တက်ရောက်နိုင်ခြင်းမရှိဘဲ ၎င်းသင်တန်းများမှာလည်း မြို့ပြဒေသတွင်ပဲရှိသည်ကများပါသည်။

ဝင်ငွေရရှိမှု ကွာဟမှုများရှိခြင်း၊ လူဦးရေ အချိုးအစား၊ မြိုပြနှင့် ကျေးလက်ဒေသနှစ်ခုအား ဒစ်ဂျစ်တယ်အရ ပိုင်းခြားထားသည့် မြေပြင်အနေအထားများ စသည်တို့သည် အထူးသဖြင့် အာရှ ဒေသ စီးပွားရေးအနေအထားမျိုးတွင် မြင်တွေ့ရတတ်ပါသည်။ ပြည်သူလူထုအနေဖြင့် ခေတ်သစ် နည်းပညာများအား သင်ယူလေ့လာပြီး ညှိနှိုင်းထိန်းညှိအသုံးပြုလာနိုင်အောင် Studer Trust မှ ကူညီပေးချင်ခဲ့ပြီး ချောင်းကြီး ဘုန်းတော်ကြီးစာသင်ကျောင်း၌ ကွန်ပျူတာစင်တာ ထားရှိရန် အခွင့်အလမ်းတွေ့ရှိခဲ့ပါသည်။

ချောင်းကြီးဘုန်းတော်ကြီးအထက်တန်းစာသင်ကျောင်းသည် မန္တလေးမြို့မှ နှစ်နာရီခွဲကြာ ကားမောင်းနှင်ရသည့် အကွာအဝေးတွင် တည်ရှိပါသည်။ ၎င်းစာသင်ကျောင်းသည် လူဦးရေ စုစုပေါင်း ၁၂၀၀၀ခန့်နေထိုင်လျက်ရှိသည့်ရွာ (၆)ရွာမှ ကျောင်းသားများအားစာသင်ကြားပို့ချလျက်ရှိပါသည်။ စာသင်ကျောင်းနှင့် အဝေးဆုံးတွင် တည်ရှိသည့်ရွာမှာ ၁၅ကီလိုမီတာအဝေးတွင်တည်ရှိပါသည်။ စာသင်ကျောင်းအာ၁၉၉၁ ခုနှစ် တွင် ချောင်းကြီး ကျောင်းထိုင်ဘုန်းတော်ကြီးက ဆင်းရဲနွမ်းပါးသည့် ကလေးငယ်များအား ကူညီ စာသင်ကြားပေးရန် ရည်ရွယ်၍ တည်ထောင်ခဲ့ပါသည်။ စာသင်ကျောင်း တည်ဆောက်ပြီးသည့် ကာလတွင် မူလတန်းကျောင်းသား ၆၃ယောက်နှင့် ဆရာ ၃ယောက်သာရှိခဲ့ပါသည်။ ဘုန်းကြီးကျောင်းဖြစ်သည့်အတွက် သီးသန့် စာသင်ခန်းဆောင်များမရှိခဲ့ပါဘဲ ဘာသာရေးကျောင်းဆောင်များအား နေ့စဉ်စာသင်ခန်းအဖြစ် အသုံးပြုခဲ့ရပါသည်။ ကျောင်းလာတက်ရောက်သည့် အဓိကကျောင်းသားဦးရေမှာ ချောင်းကြီးကျေးရွာနှင့် ချောင်းကြီးကျေးရွာတွင် ရွှေတူးရန်လာရောက်သည့် နိုင်ငံအနှံ့မှ ရွှေ့ပြောင်းလုပ်သားများ၏ သားသမီးများဖြစ်ကြပါသည်။ ယခုတွင်မူ ချောင်းကြီး ဘုန်းတော်ကြီး စာသင်ကျောင်းသည် ကျောင်းသားဦးရေ ၁၁၇၂ယောက် သင်ကြားပို့ချလျက်ရှိကာ၊ ဆရာ ၂၈ယောက်ခန့်အပ်ထားရှိပြီး ကျောင်းထိုင်ဘုန်းတော်ကြီး ဦးပညာနန္ဒမှ ကျောင်းအုပ်ကြီးအဖြစ်ဆောင်ရွက်လျက်ရှိပါသည်။

ချောင်းကြီးစာသင်ကျောင်းသည်လည်း အခြား ဘုန်တော်ကြီးစာသင်ကျောင်းများကဲ့သို့ပင် ဖြစ်ပါသည်။
