A Space for Play

You may remember Shwe Kya Monastic school, located in Myanmar’s Naypyitaw region, from their generous donation of their facilities as testing centers during the first COVID-19 outbreaks in Myanmar. The school was established in 1988 by U Zawanathiri, who believed strongly in the value of education for rural communities. As a Monastic school, Shwe Kya is typically free of charge and relies heavily on donations from surrounding communities and other organizations. Studer Trust’s first project with the school was in 2014 when we helped construct the first proper school building with four classrooms and functioning toilet facilities. After this and other infrastructural renovations, the school had become functional for teaching classes. However, like many schools (estimated 35%) in Myanmar, it lacked a playground or any sort of recreation space despite having plenty of land.

The importance of recreation is becoming increasingly recognized in Myanmar’s education sector. Opportunities to play during the school day can have an enormous positive impact. Many young children spend a significant amount of time indoors in school and then go straight back home. Playground spaces can therefore provide them with needed activity as well as fun and relaxation, all contributing to good health and well-being.

When a Swiss donor network contacted Studer Trust interested in supporting Shwe Kya school with an interesting project, we felt a playground would be the perfect contribution. In the past four years, Studer Trust has contributed to 15 school playgrounds across the country, ultimately giving nearly 3000 students a safe and secure space to play.

And so the efforts began at Shwe Kya. The biggest challenge was the uneven ground, which was also covered with large stones, uneven ground, and bushes and trees. The community wasn’t able to afford an excavator, so they enlisted a team of volunteers from four nearby villages to help clear the ground and spread sand to make it soft and flat. From there the approximately 25-person team of volunteers continued to set up a fully functioning playground including slides, jungle gyms, and swings.

Now, the 400 students at Shwe Kya school have a safe and exciting recreational space. “I am proud to be a student here, not only because we are able to study for free but also we now have access to our own playground at our school,” a primary student stated, expressing his thanks to the donors. Studer Trust is proud to have supported this project, thankful to our donors, and grateful for the hard work of the teachers, parents, and community members that helped to bring the playground to life.

ရွှေကြာ ကျောင်းကစားကွင်း

နေပြည်တော်မြို့တွင် တည်ရှိသော ရွှေကြာဘုန်းတော်ကြီးသင် စာသင်ကျောင်း ၏ ကျောင်းအဆောက်အအုံကို မြန်မာနိုင်ငံ၏ ကိုဗစ်၁၉ ပထမလှိုင်းအတွင်း ရောဂါစစ်ဆေးရန်နေရာတစ်ခုအဖြစ်အသုံးပြုနိုင်ရန် လှူဒါန်းခဲ့ပါသည်။ ပညာရေး၏တန်ဖိုးကို ခိုင်မာစွာ ယုံကြည်ခဲ့သူ ဆရာတော် ဦးဇောဝဏသီရိမှ ကျေးလက်နေရာများတွင်လိုအပ်သော ပညာရေးတန်ဖိုးမြှင့်ရန်အလို့ငှာ စာသင်ကျောင်းကို ၁၉၈၈ ခုနှစ်တွင်တည်ထောင်ခဲ့ပါသည်။

ဘုန်းတော်ကြီးသင်စာသင်ကျောင်းတစ်ခုဖြစ်သည့်အတွက် ရွှေကြာကျောင်းသို့တက်ရောက်သူများသည် အခကျေးငွေမပေးရပါ။ ကျောင်းသည် အနီးနားရရပ်ရွာများနှင့် အဖွဲ့အစည်းတစ်ချို့တို့၏ အလှူငွေများဖြင့် ရပ်တည်ရပါသည်။ ဤကျောင်းတွင်Studer Trust ၏ ပထမဦးဆုံး စီမံကိန်းကို ၂၀၁၄ ခုနှစ်တွင် စတင်ဖော်ဆောင်နိုင်ခဲ့သည်။ စာသင်ကျောင်းအဆောက်အအုံအား စာသင်ခန်းလေးခန်းအပါအဝင် အိမ်သာများပါထည့်သွင်းကာ စနစ်တကျ ဖွဲ့စည်းတည်ဆောက်နိုင်ခဲ့သည်။ ပြုပြင်မှုအချို့လုပ်ပြီးသည်နှင့်တစ်ပြိုင်နက် ရွှေကြာစာသင်ကြောင်းသည် စာသင်ကြားရေးအတွက် လက်တွေ့အသုံးကျသော ကျောင်းတစ်ကျောင်းဖြစ်လာပါတော့သည်။ သို့သော်လည်း ကျောင်းသည် မြေနေရာအကျယ်အဝန်းရှိပါလျက်နှင့် မြန်မာနိုင်ငံရှိ အခြား ၃၅ရာခိုင်နှုန်းသော ကျောင်းများနည်းတူ ကလေးများအတွက်ကစားကွင်း၊ နားနေရာ နေရာတစ်ခု မရှိခဲ့ပါ။

လက်ရှိမြန်မာနိုင်ငံ၏ ပညာရေးအခန်းကဏ္ဍတွင် အပန်းဖြေနားနေခြင်း၏ အရေးပါပုံကို ပိုပြီး အသိမှတ်ပြုလာကြပြီဖြစ်ပါသည်။ စာသင်နေ့တစ်နေ့တွင် ကစားခွင့်ရရှိခြင်းသည် ကောင်းမွန်သော အကျိုးသက်ရောက်မှုများ ရှိနိုင်ပါသည်။ များစွာသော ကလေးငယ်များသည် အတန်းထဲတွင်သာနေကြရလေ့ရှိပြီး ကျောင်းဆင်းချိန်တွင် အိမ်သို့တန်းပြန်ကြလေ့ရှိသည်။ ကစားကွင်းနေရာများသည် ကလေးများအတွက် လိုအပ်သော ပျော်ရွှင်ခြင်းနှင့် အပန်းဖြေခြင်းအပြင် လှုပ်ရှားမှုမျိုးစုံကိုပါ ဖန်တီးပေးနိုင်သော နေရာဆိုလည်းမမှားပါ။ ကစားကွင်းများရှိခြင်းဖြင့် ကလေးငယ်များ၏ ကျန်းမာရေးနှင့် စိတ်ဓာတ်ပိုင်းများကို အထောက်အပံ့များစွာရရှိနိုင်ပါသည်။

ဆွစ်ဇာလန်နိုင်ငံ လှူဒါန်းသူကွန်ယက်မှ စိတ်ဝင်စားဖွယ် စီမံကိန်းတစ်ခုကို ထောက်ပံ့ပေးနိုင်ရန် Studer Trust သို့ လာရောက်ဆက်သွယ်သောအခါ ရွှေကြာစာသင်ကျောင်းတွင် ကစားကွင်းတစ်ခုဖန်တီးပေးခြင်းသည် အကောင်းဆုံးပံ့ပိုးမှုတစ်ခုဖြစ်နိုင်သည်ဟု မိမိတို့အနေဖြင့် ခံစားမိပါသည်။ Studer Trust အနေဖြင့် ယခင်လေးနှစ်အတွင်း ကျောင်းသားပေါင်း ၃၀၀၀ ကျော် လုံလုံခြုံခြုံအနားယူ ကစားနိုင်သော ကစားကွင်းများကို နိုင်ငံတစ်ဝှမ်းရှိ စာသင်ကျောင်း ၁၅ကျောင်းတွင် တည်ဆောက်ပေးနိုင်ခဲ့ပြီးဖြစ်ပါသည်။

ရွှေကြာတွင် ကစားကွင်းတည်ဆောက်မှုစတင်ရာတွင် အကြီးမားဆုံးအခက်အခဲသည် မညီညာသော မြေကြီးမျက်နှာပြင်ပင်ဖြစ်သည်။ မြေပြင်သည် ကျောက်တုံးကြီးများ၊ ချုံပုတ်များ နှင့် သစ်ပင်များဖြင့် ပြည့်နေသည်။ အနီးနားတွင် နေထိုင်သော ဒေသခံများသည် မြေတူးစက်မငှားနိုင်သဖြင့် နီးစပ်ရာ ရွာများမှ စေတနာ့ဝန်ထမ်းများခေါ်ယူကာ မြေကြီးရှင်းလင်းပြီး သဲများဖြန့်ကာ မြေပြင်ညီညာပြီးညက်သွားရန် ကြိုးစားပြုလုပ်ခဲ့ကြရသည်။ ဒေသခံ၂၅ယောက်ဖြင့်ဖွဲ့စည်းထားသော စေတနာ့ဝန်ထမ်းအဖွဲ့သည် လျှောစီးများ၊ အပျော်တမ်းလေ့ကျင့်ခန်းပြုရာနေရာနှင့် ဒန်းများပါဝင်သော ကစားကွင်းတစ်ခုကို အတူတကွအပြီးသတ် ဖန်တီးနိုင်ခဲ့ကြသည်။

ယခုတွင် ရွှေကြာစာသင်ကျောင်းရှိ ကျောင်းသား အယောက် ၄၀၀ခန့်သည် လုံခြုံပြီး စိတ်လှုပ်ရှားဖွယ်ကောင်းသော အပန်းဖြေစရာနေရာတစ်ခုပိုင်ဆိုင်ပြီးဖြစ်ပါသည်။ သူငယ်တန်းကျောင်းသားတစ်ဦးက ‘ကျွန်တော်ဒီမှာစာသင်ရတာ ပျော်တယ်။ စာကိုလည်း အလကားသင်လို့ရတဲ့အပြင် ကျွန်တော်တို့မှာကိုယ်ပိုင် ကစားကွင်းလည်းရှိတယ်’ ဟု ဆိုပြီး လှူဒါန်းခဲ့သူများကို ကျေးဇူးတင်စကားပြောပါသည်။ Studer Trust အနေဖြင့် ဤစီမံကိန်းကို ထောက်ပံ့ခွင့်ရခဲ့သည့်အတွက် အလွန်ဂုဏ်ယူရပြီး အလှူငွေထောက်ပံ့ပေးသူများ၊ ကျောင်းဆရာဆရာမများ၊ ကျောင်းသားမိဘများနှင့် ရပ်ရွာအသိုင်းအဝိုင်းများကို အလွန်ကျေးဇူးတင်လျှက်ရှိပါသည်။
